About

Hello, world

My name is fingacode — some know me as Junior. Creative coder and artist. I’ve been building things with code since my early teens, and sharing the work under this name since 2019.

How I got here

I came to this through software, not art school. I work as an engineer, and the creative coding has always run alongside it — the outlet, the place the ideas go. Erratic keyboard tapping & mouse clicking.

I started out making music visualisers in JavaScript, then graduated to TouchDesigner during lockdown. Most of that work was interactive, using human movement and sound as the input — the thing that seeded what appeared on screen. When blockchain art took off I found my way into the generative communities, and I’ve mostly stayed there since.

What keeps me experimenting with this medium is the not-knowing. I write the rules, randomness seeds them, and the thing draws something I haven’t seen before — so I’m as much an audience for the output as anyone else.

That means most of my work is really about building the tool rather than the picture. Every project starts as a new system: colour, geometry, movement, whatever I’m curious about that day. Some of it comes out of where I’m from and where I’ve been — nth culture from the textiles of Bamenda, patches from a trip to Morocco — and some of it is just chasing an idea until it works.

The prints

Same deal here. Every piece is an algorithm, not a fixed image. Run it and it draws a new arrangement from the same underlying rules. Run it again, you get something else. When you land on one you like, that exact run is what gets printed.

Nobody else has yours. That’s the whole point.
